KNM Tanzania
KNM Tanzania is a community development organisation based in Arusha, Tanzania. KNM supports young single mothers and vulnerable young girls to re-enter or continue formal education, learn vocational skills such as sewing, beading and book-keeping and start their own businesses.
The KNM name (kundi la nguvu mamas) translates in English to "group of strong mothers". The project has run a cooperative business making and selling clothes, bags, pillows and other items from kangas and kitenges (colourful African fabrics). KNM fundraises money for the women and girls to cover school fees, uniforms and medicine for their children. 100% of all money raised and donated goes to the women and girls in the group. The group operates with the assistance and support of local and international volunteers and the Edmund Rice Sinon secondary school in Arusha.
